Background: Tuberculosis is an essential problem for healthcare systems especially in developing countries . All newborns are given Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) vaccine in Iran which is prepared from live bovine tuberculosis bacillus, and is given to protect against tuberculosis. Osteomyelitis secondary to BCG vaccination is rare and usually involves epiphysis of long tubular bones. Methods...

Bacille Calmette-Guérin (BCG) lymphadenitis is the most common complication of BCG vaccination. Two forms of BCG lymphadenitis can be recognised in its natural course-simple or non-suppurative lymphadenitis, which usually regresses spontaneously over a period of few weeks, and suppurative BCG lymphadenitis distinguished by the development of fluctuations in the swelling, with erythema and oedem...

A 17 month old boy presented with monoarthritis involving his knee, which started 7 month earlier, responding to NSAID therapy, respectively. On physical examination the only finding was the painful effusion and functional limitation of the right knee, with hyperaemic skin reaction above it. His BCG scar was normal. Laboratory evaluation showed mildly elevated CRP (21 mg/l) and C3. RF, ANA, ENA...

Bacille Calmette-Guérin (BCG) osteomyelitis is a very rare complication of BCG vaccination. We report a 14-month-old boy who received BCG vaccination at birth. He developed pain and swelling in his left calf at 11 months of age. BCG osteomyelitis was diagnosed in right femur and left tibia. He had no evidence of immunodeficiency. After antituberculous therapy and surgical treatment, the bone le...
